What are the principal advantages of using a single building information model of the existing conditions as the foundation for modeling proposed additions or renovations?

  • In a single project, you can have the existing building and the proposed renovations/add-ons. It is more feasible than sending around multiple models to contractors, engineers, and architects. It also easily allows you to see what has been changed between phases.

In your project, which features of the proposed design did you choose to model as design alternatives?

  • I chose to model my roof as a design alternative, because it doesn’t affect the functionality of the space inside, but instead adds an alternative look to the outside. As a design alternative, the roof has many different possibilities and looks, the most challenging thing was landing on two main designs.
