Transportation/Increase electric vehicle range
This area is important/interesting to me because….
My idea for my design project is to change electric vehicles to have interchangeable batteries which will be very beneficial and solve numerous problems. Electric cars are getting increasingly popular as climate change gets worse, however, only some businesses are ready to switch over due to their current limitations. Two significant problems electric cars face are their limited driving range and long recharge times. By creating battery stations instead of charging stations, cars could easily switch out batteries and be back on the road in a matter of minutes rather than waiting hours for the vehicle to recharge. This change would expand the market to more people that require vehicles with longer ranges such as people with long commutes and semi-trucks that don’t have time to wait for their vehicles to recharge. While the batteries are being recharged at these stations, they could be connected to the local power grid. This would effectively stop power outages and drastically increase battery storage across the nationwide grid.
