  • Challenges to design HVAC systems

Routing ducts without conflicts needs to think about clearance of space from structural frames. Floor to floor height and height of beams can defer from level to level, thereby it’s necessary to be confirmed, and then diffusers and ducts should be carefully arranged.

  • Spatial goal

I divided main routes in several sub routes to make the size of ducts small enough. Therefore, each room can have enough clearance from the floors. I placed ducts and diffusers as high as possible, just under the beams.

  • Design strategy

In my opinion, in order to reduce operating energy consumption, zoning areas depending on the usage of the rooms is quite important. For example, meeting rooms and offices have different operation time. Offices can be used longer than meeting rooms, therefore they need both active and passive temperature controlling in order to reduce energy consumption. In addition, they should have different route from rooms which can be unoccupied frequently.
