What does sustainability mean to you?

Sustainability for me is not limited to (though of course, it includes) environmental conservation and efficiency. I think about it in the context of financial accessibility, as well as the general relationship a building might have with its environment and culture.

I’m particularly interested in how we can repurpose existing buildings when possible, reuse materials, and I’m curious empirically if that is in fact a smarter option than rebuilding.

There is also the concept of deconstruction - in which older buildings are taken apart but pieces are reused for other projects. Often I think these practices are overlooked because they might be more expensive than simply purchasing new materials in bulk- so I’m also interested in what kind of relationship markets have with our approaches to sustainable design.

Maybe part of the appeal for me
