My design inspirations and big features ideas go hand in hand, so I will discuss the both of them together:
FEATURE: Organic Form
INSPIRATION: LAND Experience Center
A huge feature I wish to implement in my final design is the notion of organic form. By utilizing inspiration from the nature around us and how it’s constructed, I hope to recreate the serene feeling of walking through a garden as one journeys through the exhibit. I have always appreciated a break from the block-shaped building that make up the majority of cities.
FEATURE: Light & Color
INSPIRATION: Marcus Mariota Facility Center
Honestly this is more of an interior design thing but I love the way that Oregons facilities have a “wow factor” to them. A simple sloped roof creates all the difference. Even though I’ll never get to see this part of the process, if I allow room in my design for this type of creativity, I believe it will turn out how I envision in the end.
OTHER DESIGN FEATURES:
-Adaptability
Huge. The ability to adapt to changes through multifunctional spaces and movable interior structures will, in my opinion, only strengthen the design of our space.
-Material Variety
Aim is the have a few common materials you see throughout the building with a plethora of other materials throughout the building. I believe material choice can change a space just as much as the design of the space itself, so by mixing it up I hope to essentially create multiple worlds inside the galaxy of the exhibit.
SUSTAINABILITY GOALS:
-Environmentally Preferable Materials
-Conservation of Rain Water
-Inclusion of Nature
-Renewable Energy Source/Net Zero
