Your Recommendation for the “Best” Design Option
Initial analysis show the influence that the design has on sunlight and shading in the surrounding context as well as its impact on the microclimate of the given region.
When looking as shading specifically, we see long shadows spanning to the North East for both models. While the shapes of each model influence the shadow sizing, both models are such a contained height that they have seemingly no impact on the adjacent two buildings within our given site. The first model shown in the comparison, which we will call Model 1, does seem to have some serious shading issues in the “interior” portion of the build. Heavy shading from the enclosing infrastructure allows very little sunlight into a major and central area of the building, which does not make for lively environment. The second model shown, which we will call simply call Model 2, does not appear to have these same sunlight difficulties. Model two appears to receive adequate amounts of sunlight, with the only true shading of the day, if we want to call it that, on the north side of the build.
Taking a look at the microclimate analysis for both models we see that they are very similar. The only noticeable difference is the width of the blue area indicating colder weather. Model 1 has a slightly larger width of projection when compared to that of Model 2, meaning Model 2, generally, will allow for a warmer climate on the North end of the site.
Following that look into our model analysis, I see Model 2 as the clear favorite and “best” design out of the given three. It allows for optimal sunlight into the building while also allowing for warmer temperatures in the surrounding area.
