Design Inspirations

  1. The Sun-Moon Mansion in China gave me the inspiration of using the facade and roof of a building to its maximum advantage. Through solar panels, this would help power a large percentage of the building. In addition, this makes me wonder what other outlets are there for roof exploration.

  1. The Salesforce Park is a floating park in the middle of San Francisco. This made me question how we can have our building spaces interact with other buildings and an environment that feels more natural. This made me wonder on how the green space of buildings can produce a more interactive environment.

  1. A design inspiration is to fuse environmental elements into the building. I want to focus on green roofs to combat emissions and connecting users to the environment. Inspired by the Salesforce Park, confining greenery to our buildings forces a bond with the enclosed environment.

  1. This is an image from the San Francisco Exploratorium facility. I want to push for an interior space that allows for an interactive environment with the building. I feel that this requires that the building is purposeful in terms of its interior space and also allowing for change and eliminate repetition.

Big Feature Ideas

  1. A big feature that I enjoyed from this building is the ability to adapt. This may mean many things but I want to focus on the aesthetics as well as the efficiency of seasonal changes and light and energy consumption of the building. This has not been extensively explored in buildings and I feel this has a potential to move buildings to a different understanding.

  1. An additional feature is the buildings way to adapt to its environment while being very careful of the materials of our facade and interior spaces. The Pixel Building in Australia captures the first carbon neutral structure while providing an interest look in its environment.

  1. A big feature that I want to explore is the usage of glass and balancing the facade materials. I feel that glass is a popular selection but how is it compared to other materials or how can we improve the efficiency of the glass materials for the facade. This can definitely intertwined with the moving ability of point #5.

  1. The last big feature inspired from point #5 is the ability for a building to shift to meet many necessities. Above is the mechanical system of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Spain. The pitch can change into different sport fields. This makes me question how can spaces be more purposeful to adapt to different building necessities when needed.
