Key Findings from the Interview

  • What service are you currently using most frequently in your daily life?
  • She explains how she relies on a subscription to stream movies such as Netflix. She has been using Netflix for years now and is satisfied with the service they provide, as they supply a great variety of different movies and series that are updated weekly, which she thinks is worth the price she pays. She also mentions that she used to previously stream movies and shows through online websites, but she feels "safer" using Netflix as it doesn't have continuous pop-ups that may crash your device.

  • What is one way your Netflix subscription is contributing to your sustainability?
  • The first idea that popped into her head is the fact that she isn't buying any CDs to satisfy her movie needs. When she subscribed to Netflix, purchasing plastic CDs for movies or shows greatly decreased, which in-turn decreased her plastic waste. This would also mean that when her CD demands decreased, the supply also decreased which helped in decreasing the toxic emissions that come with the production of these plastic CDs.

  • Do you prefer paying for your subscription monthly or yearly?
  • She says that she's been using Netflix for a long time which made her trust the service and trust that her money is being used for something worthwhile, which makes her pay for the yearly subscription. She explains that she's sure that she'll be using this service in the near future, so paying for the yearly subscription would be smart and cost effective, as it would be cheaper than paying monthly.
