Key Findings from the Interview

  • What is one way sustainability is related to services?
  • She explains that when a certain service fulfills customer needs and demands and at the same time has minimal negative impact on the environment or at least counteracts a negative environmental impact, then it can be a sustainable service.

  • Can you give some examples of services that you think are sustainable?
  • The first service she thought about is her Hulu subscription to watch movies and TV shows, as that greatly decreased he plastic waste coming from CDs that she previously used to purchase. She also mentioned public transportation as a sustainable service since it decreases a persons carbon footprint. She says that although this transportation method still emits greenhouse gases and may seem like it's not sustainable, choosing public transport over a car that runs on dirty fuel is definitely a sustainable option because the public transport will be emitting these gases whether you choose to ride it or not. Reducing your car use leads to a great impact on the toxic gases reduction.

  • What is one specific sustainable service you use in your everyday life?
  • She uses a recycling service in her everyday life where she has a subscription with a certain recycling company that collects her recyclable waste from her house at the end of each week. This service helped her contribute greatly to recycling her paper, plastic, and metal waste. The subscription that she pays is mainly for the cost of the ride to arrive to her house, which is relatively reasonable. Instead of the hassle of having to leave the house snd dropping the waste at some company, the company comes to her, which saves her a lot of time.
