Your Recommendation for the “Best” Design Option
Given the sun analysis and the daylight potential analysis, and the overall design structure, I would say that Proposal 3 is the best to pursue. The first one is good with sunlight and daylight, but lacks some sort of interest. The second has more intrigue, but the entrance creates a void of darkness, and since Copenhagen is on the colder side, this would mean a lot more heating. To combat this, the third proposal has cutouts that also double as walkways that allow for more natural light on the interior of the center void.
Though this darkness might sound like a negative when thinking about the daylight potential, I think that this opposition of very well lit places and darker ones is actually suitable for the program of an interactive sustainability center, as there are some plants that require a lot of light and others that need the darkness. This dichotomy would allow for specific programming in concentrated areas, and make the overall experience much more complex. The third program also tilts up, allowing for the roofs of the front section of the building to become a balcony for more programming, while the slanted roof section can serve as either a space for solar panels or for another sustainable solution to capturing the energy from the sun and re-directing it into the building to decrease the net energy use.
