Concept: The dome of the Moynihan Train Hall in Manhattan
Concept: Goldfish (length of baseline: 400)
Concept: Shell (length of baseline: 100, amplitude of baseline: 100)
This time, my workflow steps do not match the steps in the instructions. So, I will simply explain my workflow steps. However, I have covered all steps of the instructions of all four units.
The first step is to define the baseline. The length has three options but is not a number slider because there would be errors, as I mentioned before. The width of the dome, which is the amplitude of the sine wave, could be adjusted.
Step 2 is to define the second baseline. The distance between the two baselines could be adjusted.
The third step is to define a central rib. The height, both the amplitude of the sine wave and its distance to the ground, could be adjusted.
In Step 4, the other cross ribs are created. The number of ribs could be adjusted.
In Step 5, longitudinal ribs and panel points are defined. One thing to notice is that the number of panels on each rib equals the number of panel points minus one. So if the value on the slider is 15, the number of panels is 14.
The sixth step is to apply adaptive components to the cross ribs. I used Tube - 3pt - Uniform (Point1Radius):Tube - 3pt - Uniform (Point1Radius). Its radius could be adjusted. I applied yellow paint to the tubes.
In the seventh step, I applied the adaptive panels. I used Rect_Panel with Resizable Opening:Glazing. I defined two frame width percentages and the panel thickness.
For the last step, I created two patterns for the panels using the method in the instructions. Some panels are blue, while others are red.
Parameters that could be changed
The length of the dome (not a slider; only three options to avoid errors)
The amplitude of the baselines
The distances between two baselines
The amplitude of the central rib
The height of the central rib (dome)
The number of cross-ribs
The number of longitudinal ribs (panel points, panels on each cross-rib)
The radius of the tube
The frame width percentage A
The frame width percentage B
The panel thickness
I’m not sure if I have included all parameters. There are some other parameters that could be adjusted, but those are the ones that are intended to be changeable. How parameters could change the geometry of the model was described in the workflows.
