I designed my shelter in Grasshopper!

My modeling approach began with sketching out ideas for the overall shape and effect of the design. I wanted to create a circular scaffolding with the intention of encircling a garden or pond and providing shade from the sun, while still being able to take in the surroundings. The shape of the paneling is made up of three sin curves connected by Pipes, and then panels lofted between the pipes. The roof stands on columns located at every valley of the inner and outer curves (wherever z of the curve = relative 0).

The amplitude of the curves (and therefore height of the cover/interplay of the shapes) as well as the frequency of its waves can be parameterized, as can the number of pipes (density of paneling, to let in more or less light). The thickness of the columns is also dynamic for structural stability.
