Overview

Replace this text with your reflections on your design journey through class from a higher level and share your insights about the entire experience. What were:

  • Key / Essential / Unique Design Features that you explored in your project.
  • The design has very few windows to create a quiet, immersive exhibition space that feels separate from the busy city. This helps visitors focus on the exhibits without outside distractions and gives better control over lighting to highlight displays. The enclosed design also helps keep the indoor temperature stable and protects the exhibits from weather changes. Also, the simple rectangular grid layout with steel framing and thick beams makes the building strong and easy to construct. At the same time, the modular walls and adjustable lighting allow the space to change easily—it can hold big exhibitions or be rearranged for smaller events, depending on the need.

  • Your Big Successes -- what worked very well and what features you're most proud to share as examples to inspire others. The lack of windows actually worked well. It kept the focus on the exhibits, made it easier to control the lighting, and helped maintain a good indoor temperature. The space felt more controlled and professional, which was great for exhibitions. Also, brick CMU exterior walls were a great decision because they are strong, control humidity, and help keep the temperature stable without needing too much air conditioning.
  • Your Big Challenges -- what aspects of the project created the biggest challenges and what would you do differently (in hindsight) to avoid or overcome these challenges.
  • At first, I wanted to use eco-friendly materials, but Revit didn’t have many options that fit both strength and sustainability needs. That made it hard to include the materials I originally wanted. So, I would try using custom material modeling or external plugins to add better options in Revit. Also, researching real-world sustainable materials earlier would help match the digital model with what’s actually available in early stage of modeling design.

  • Lessons Learned -- what sage words of advice would you share with other students who are embarking on a similar project. 1) Drawing a big picture and having a rough draft/structure plan would be helpful to start the project since modeling a project using a new software is always challenging and might feel a burden.
  • 2) It might be a good idea to look for help on Youtube, online forums, or use external plugins to find missing materials. 3) It’s better to choose materials at the start so you don’t run into problems later. Knowing what’s available in the software and in real life makes it easier to design a realistic and sustainable project.
