About Stairs
Stairs are multi-floor elements that stay consistent across your building.
- You add stairs in a Floor Plan view, and they appear in other views.
- Stairs span multiple floors even when floor heights vary; they stay consistent by adjusting the number of risers.
- If you change a floor’s height, the stair adapts automatically.
Placing a Stair
To place a stair:
- Open a Floor Plan for one of the floors that the stair will span.
- Click the Add Stairs tool.
- Click a location in the Floor Plan view to place the stair.
Modifying a Stair
You can modify a stair in several ways:
- Start by selecting the stair in the Floor Plan view.
Changing the Space between the Runs
- Drag a handle on one side of the stair run to change the space between the runs. Note: If the space between the runs gets large enough, the stair will reconfigure itself from 2 runs to 3 runs.
Rotating or Flipping the Stair Direction
- Press the R key to rotate the stair 90 degrees.
- Press the Space key to flip the stair direction.
Changing the Run Width, Start Floor, or End Floor
- Enter the desired Start Floor, End Floor or Run Width in the Stairs properties palette.
How Stairs Appear in Floor Plan Views
In Floor Plan views, the stair appears using the drawing convention typical of architectural drawings.
- On the Start floor: The flight going up is drawn with solid lines, and the portion above the cut line (typically 1.2 m or 4 feet) appears as faint dashed lines.
- On Intermediate floors: The flight going up to the next floor and the flight going down to the one below meet at the cut line and are drawn with solid lines.
- On the Top floor: The full flight, which arrives from below, is shown with solid lines.
If the stair appears in yellow, it means that the stair is in conflict with another design element on any floor where it is located, so you may want to view a different floor to resolve the issue.
