The Annual Building Energy Simulation workflow uses OpenStudio to predict the annual energy that will be used by your building.
Workflow
‣
Confirm Your Project Location
- Open Analyze > Energy Optimization > Location to confirm that your project is set to the correct latitude and longitude.
- If not:
- Choose Internet Mapping Service from the Define Location By menu.
- Enter the project address or latitude and longitude for your project site.
‣
Simplify Your Model for Energy Analysis
The process that Autodesk Revit uses to create an Energy Analytical Model is finicky, and it can take a very long time (or stall completely) with very large complex models.
To work around this known limitation, follow these steps to create a simplified model to analyze, which removes elements that aren’t used by the analysis:
- Use File > Save As > Project to create a new local Revit project on your computer.
- Create a new 3D default view that shows the entire model.
- Remove all coordination models.
- Select any coordination models (for example, the context buildings).
- Unpin, then delete them.
- When this warning appears, click Remove Model.
- Remove the toposolid that represents the terrain.
- Select the toposolid element.
- Then, delete it.
‣
Create an Energy Analytical Model (EAM)
- Open the Create Energy Analytical Model tool.
- Click Create the Energy Analytical Model.
- Accept any warning messages that appear and continue creating the model.
- When the EAM is complete:
- A new 3D view will be created named Analytical Spaces
- This view will be opened to display the spaces in the EAM.
‣
Create a Systems Analysis Report
After you create the EAM, you can run a Systems Analysis Report.
- Open Analyze > Energy Optimization > Systems Analysis.
- Choose the Annual Building Energy Simulation Workflow.
- Enter a name for the Report.
When the Analysis is completed, the report will appear in the Project Browser in the Reports branch.
- Double click a report to view the results.
‣
Interpreting the Analysis Results
- This workflow creates a very detailed report including:
- An Annual overview
- A Monthly overview
- Measure warnings
- A Detailed report containing
- The Site and Source Energy measured in kBut/ft2 (shown in the Detailed Report) can be summed to compute the building’s Energy Use Intensity (EUI) .
