‣
Assigning Marks and Type Marks
Assign mark values to the pile caps and apply the specified pile cap tag type.
Assign unique marks to the piles and place the pile tags.
‣
Rooms
‣
Rename Rooms
"Change all the room names so that they are translated to Spanish and add a new color scheme."
It updated all 16 rooms in one operation and returned a change log, for example Master Bedroom became Dormitorio Principal.
“Change the Name of Room 201 to Conference Room .”
‣
Set Department or Occupancy
“Set the Department parameter for all rooms on Level 2 to Administration .”
“For rooms whose names contain Office , set Occupancy to Business .”
‣
Set Other Room Parameters
“Set Comments to Existing to remain for every room in the Existing phase.”
“Copy each room’s Number into the Room ID shared parameter.”
“Set the Finish Floor parameter to Carpet Tile for all rooms in the Office department.”
‣
Visual and graphic changes
Color elements or rooms by parameter. Coloring rooms and elements by department, area, or occupancy type becomes a single command, replacing manual filter overrides. bimsmith
Caveat: it produces a visual color effect on the rooms but cannot create the official Revit Color Fill Legend annotation object. bimsmith
‣
Assign Graphic Overrides by Parameter Values
"Assign a red colour to any rebar longer than 12,000 millimetres, excluding stirrups." This filters on the bar Length parameter and accepts either a color name or an RGB value. It only overrides projection lines through Override Graphics in View by Element; it can't change surface color.
"Create a color scheme for rooms in this view. I want it by name." This gives a visual color-coding by room name but cannot create a native Color Fill Legend.
‣
Levels
‣
Level elevations (Elevation parameter)
Set the spacing between consecutive levels to 4,000 mm for Levels 2 through 23. The Assistant asked the user to confirm which levels would change before applying it.
‣
Views
‣
Create views
"Create a floor plan for the level L1 and name it 'L1-AI'". autodesk
“Create a floor plan for Level 2”.
Duplicate views
Change views
Apply view templates
Apply color or graphic overrides to elements and control what’s visible.
Place views on Sheets
‣
Annotations
‣
Tag Model Elements
‣
Tag elements by type
Finding and tagging all elements of a certain type is one of the listed capabilities. architosh
‣
Tag all rooms in a view
‣
Sheets
‣
Create sheets, place viewports, and rename.
Create 50 sheets with the default title block, numbered from S01.
Create sheets, place views on them, and rename sheets in bulk.[autodesk]
One short prompt produced nine operations: three sheet creations, three viewport placements, and three renames. bimsmith
Rename sheets
Bulk-rename sheets.
For example, adding "Demo" to the beginning of each sheet name. autodesk
Renumber sheets
Renumber sheets S01 to S09 as a new sequence starting at A101, and renumber the remaining sheets from S101.
Place views on sheets
Export or print sheets to PDF.[autodesk]
‣
Change the Title block type (multi-step)
First ask the Assistant for a table of each sheet's number, title block, family, and type.
Edit that table in Excel
Then paste the revised table back into a new prompt so it applies the changes.
‣
Schedules
Create schedules with fields, sorting, and grouping. This includes building schedules with particular fields, sorting, and grouping set from the start. hagerman
Create schedules, such as one for all doors.[autodesk]
Filter schedule data.
Narrow schedule data with filters.[autodesk]
‣
Walls
‣
Changing Wall Type
Changing a wall type is supported in Revit, and wall type changes can affect all members when you edit the type definition itself; switching an individual wall to an existing type is the safer requested operation.
“Find all interior partition walls on Level 2 using the Generic - 5" type. Show their Element IDs, current wall type, length, base constraint, and top constraint. After I confirm, change them to Interior - Stud 3 5/8" - GWB.”
“Replace all exterior walls on the north façade with the Exterior - Brick on CMU wall type. Preserve each wall’s location line, base constraint, top constraint, offsets, joins, inserts, and instance comments. Preview the affected walls first.”
“Find walls whose Type Mark is I1 . Show affected wall instances and types, then change their wall type to Interior - 1 Hr Rated Partition after confirmation.”
“Change selected walls to the Exterior - CMU on Mtl. Stud type. Before applying, report whether the change will shift the wall location because the core or exterior-face alignment differs.”
‣
Setting Base and Top Constraints
Base Constraint, Top Constraint, Base Offset, and Top Offset are documented wall instance controls; Revit also allows walls to use an unconnected height instead of a level-based top constraint.
“For all walls on Level 1 with Base Constraint Level 1 , set Top Constraint to Level 2 . Keep Base Offset and Top Offset at their current values. Show the proposed changes before applying them.”
“Find all walls in the Core workset whose Base Constraint is Level 1 . Change the base constraint to Foundation Level and set Base Offset to 0 mm ; preserve the current top constraint and top offset.”
“Set the base constraint of the selected walls to Level 2 , set the top constraint to Level 3 , and set both Base Offset and Top Offset to 0 mm .”
“For all interior walls in Area A, change Top Constraint from Unconnected to Level 2 . Do not modify walls attached to roofs, floors, ceilings, or other elements; list those exceptions.”
“Find walls whose top constraint is Unconnected and whose unconnected height is less than 2400 mm . Set their Top Constraint to Level 2 and retain their current top elevation by calculating an appropriate Top Offset. Preview results first.”
‣
Setting Unconnected Height or Offsets
“Set the Unconnected Height of all walls in the Shaft group to 6000 mm , but only where Top Constraint is Unconnected .”
“For selected walls, set Base Constraint to Level 1 , Top Constraint to Level 2 , Base Offset to -150 mm , and Top Offset to 0 mm .”
“Find walls on Level 1 that extend above Level 2 by more than 300 mm . List their top constraint and top offset, then set Top Offset to 0 mm only after confirmation.”
‣
Setting Location Line and Geometry
Revit documents the Location Line along with base and top constraints as editable wall instance properties; it also cautions that changing wall types can shift walls when their alignment references differ.
“Set the Location Line of all selected exterior walls to Finish Face: Exterior . Report any walls that would shift geometry before applying the update.”
‣
Setting Structural Usage
“Change Structural Usage to Bearing for walls that have the Load Bearing parameter checked.”
“For all walls of type Interior - 1 Hr Rated Partition , set Structural Usage to Non-bearing and set Comments to Partition—coordinate MEP penetrations .”
“For selected walls, enable the Structural parameter, set Structural Usage to Bearing , and set Comments to Verify load path with structural engineer .”
‣
Setting Function
“Set Function to Exterior for every wall in the Exterior Brick family/type.”
‣
Setting Type Mark
“Set Type Mark to I12 for the selected wall type only. Show every wall instance and tag that will update before I confirm.”
‣
Setting Fire Rating
“Set the Fire Rating of all interior partitions in the 1 Hour wall type to 1 HR .”
“Set Fire Rating to 1 HR for all walls in the Interior - Stud family that border rooms named Exit Corridor ; list walls already assigned a different rating before changing them.”
‣
Setting Comments
“For all walls on Level 1, set Comments to Confirm wall assembly .”
‣
Setting Phasing
“Set the Phase Created parameter of all demolition walls to Existing where that edit is permitted by the project setup.”
“For walls in the demolition phase, set the project parameter Demolition Status to Remove and append — Demo to Comments without overwriting existing comment text.”
‣
Using a Safe Universal Prompt
“Find [wall scope]. For each wall, show Element ID, current Wall Type, Base Constraint, Base Offset, Top Constraint, Top Offset, Location Line, and proposed values. Identify walls attached to other elements, walls with inserts, and walls that may shift due to type-core alignment. Make no change until I approve the complete list.”
‣
Doors and Windows
‣
Changing Family or Type
“Find all door instances on Levels 2 through 6 whose current family name contains ‘Single.’ Show the affected Element IDs, current Family and Type, and proposed replacement. After I confirm, change them to the Single-Flush family and 36" x 84" type.”
This makes the selection criteria, scope, target family/type, and confirmation requirement explicit.
“Find all windows in the current view using the Fixed family. Show the selected elements first, then change their type to Fixed - 1200 x 1500 mm after I confirm.”
‣
Changing Width or Height
‣
Use Caution When Changing Type Parameters
For many standard Revit door and window families, Width and Height are type parameters. Changing them can therefore affect every instance of that type, which is why the prompts explicitly ask Assistant to preview the elements and use a matching type where possible.
“Before making changes, identify whether Width and Height are type or instance parameters. Show the affected family types and element instances, including current and proposed dimensions. Do not apply changes until I confirm.”
‣
Door prompts
“Find all doors on Level 1 using the Single-Flush family. Show their current Width and Height values, then change the door type to one with a width of 914 mm and height of 2134 mm after I confirm.”
“For all doors with Type Mark D-01 , change the Width to 900 mm and retain the existing Height. If Width is a type parameter, create or select an appropriate existing 900 mm-wide type rather than modifying unrelated door types.”
“Find door types whose Width is 762 mm and Height is 2032 mm . Show the affected types and instances, then change them to the equivalent 914 mm × 2134 mm type after confirmation.”
“List all doors on Level 2 narrower than 900 mm . After approval, replace each with the corresponding door type that is 900 mm wide and has the same finish, fire rating, and handing where available.”
‣
Window prompts
“Find all windows in the Fixed family on Level 3. Show the current Width and Height, then change them to a 1200 mm × 1500 mm type after I confirm.”
“For all windows in the east elevation, change the Width to 1500 mm while keeping the current Height. If the dimensions are type-controlled, select or create the matching window type and report every affected instance first.”
“Find windows with a Height below 1200 mm , show their Element IDs and current dimensions, then change them to the nearest existing type with a height of 1200 mm .”
“Replace all Fixed - 900 × 1200 mm windows on Level 1 with Fixed - 1200 × 1500 mm ; preserve sill height, Mark, Comments, and other instance parameters.”
‣
Setting Sill Height
“Set the Sill Height of all windows on Level 3 to 900 mm .”
‣
Setting Mark or Type Mark
“Set Mark for doors on Level 1 to D-101 , D-102 , D-103 in sequence, ordered by Element ID.”
“Change the Type Mark of all 36" x 84" doors to D36-84 .”
‣
Settting Comments
“For all doors in the Single-Flush family, set Comments to Verify hardware set .”
“Update all windows in the Storefront family: set Comments to Coordinate glazing with façade consultant .”
‣
Setting Other Parameters
“Set the Fire Rating parameter to 60 min for all doors on Level 2.”
“Find doors with a blank Fire Rating parameter, show the results, then set the value to Not Rated after I confirm.”
“For every exterior door, set Finish to Painted steel .”
‣
Floors
“For all floors on Level 2, populate Finish Code with FL-02 .”
‣
Roofs
“Set Description to Insulated roof assembly for every roof using the Roof - Generic type.”
‣
Structural Elements
“Set Mark for structural columns on Level 1 to C-01 , C-02 , and so on.”
“Set Comments to Verify with structural drawings for all beams longer than 6,000 mm .”
“For structural framing on Level 3, set Framing Notes to Coordinate penetrations before issue .”
“Set the Material parameter of all foundation walls to Cast-in-place concrete .”
“Set Design Option-related project parameters, where editable, for all columns in Option A to Option A review .”
“Populate the Asset ID parameter for equipment supports using SUP- followed by their Element ID.”
‣
MEP Elements
“Set System Classification to Supply Air for all unclassified supply ducts.”
“For all air terminals on Level 2, set Comments to Verify airflow .”
“Set Panel to LP-2 for lighting fixtures in the Level 2 electrical zone.”
“Set the Circuit Number parameter to L2-01 for the selected lighting fixtures.”
“Set Insulation Thickness to 25 mm for chilled-water pipes in the mechanical room.”
“Set Service Type to Domestic Cold Water for plumbing fixtures in the north restroom.”
Add Coordination required to the Comments parameter for ducts whose diameter exceeds 600 mm .”
‣
Data Cleanup
“Find all walls with a blank Assembly Code parameter, show me the list, and set the value to Unclassified after confirmation.”
“Replace every Comments value of TBD with To be coordinated for doors and windows.”
“Set the Keynote parameter to A101 for every element whose Type Mark starts with A- .”
“Copy the Type Mark into the Asset Tag parameter for all mechanical equipment.”
“For all furniture elements, combine Room Number, Type Mark, and a sequential identifier into the Asset ID parameter.”
“Check whether Mark values follow the format D-### ; list noncompliant doors before changing anything.”
‣
Overall Strategies for Creating Prompts
[Action] + [Revit elements] + [scope or conditions] + [required result or intended outcome].
‣
Include a Safety Check before Making Changes
“Find all [category] where [condition]. Show the Element ID, family/type, current [parameter], and proposed value. Ask for confirmation before setting [parameter] to [new value].”
“Find all doors on Levels 2 through 6 whose family name contains Single . Show Element ID, current Family, Type, and Fire Rating. After confirmation, set Fire Rating to 60 min .”
‣
Breaking a Process into Multiple Steps
Autodesk’s demo creates a plan, applies a template, tags the rooms, repeats this for other levels, makes sheets, renames them, and exports to PDF, all from a chain of prompts.[autodesk]
‣
Select elements to set the scope for a batch edit
"How many structural columns have their Base Level set to L2?"
Check whether every view on sheets A100–A106 has a view template assigned.
"How many exterior walls have an empty Fire Rating parameter?"
Ask how many doors in the building are narrower than 90 cm.
Find and count before editing. Examples include "How many structural columns have their Base Level set to L2?" and checking whether all views on sheets A100–A106 have a view template assigned. These queries are useful for scoping a batch edit before running it. autodesk
‣
Repeat a sequence across levels.
For example: "Repeat the same process from the beginning for Levels 2 and 3." autodesk
‣
Tracking and Undoing Changes
Since Revit 2027.1, every change made through an MCP tool appears in the Undo menu with an “AI” prefix, and each run is recorded in the Revit journal with start time, completion status and errors .
A Stop button lets you cut off a long operation partway through .
‣
Saving Prompts to the Prompt Library for Reuse
The updated marks then appear in the project's schedules, and both prompts were saved to the Prompt Library for reuse on other projects.
Templates I wrote (not from published demos)
These follow the same formula but aren't confirmed in any source I found, so test them on a copy of your model first:
"Set the Fire Rating of all doors on Level 3 with an empty Fire Rating to 60 min. Show me the list and ask before applying."
"Set the Comments parameter of all selected walls to 'Verify on site'."
"Set the Department of rooms 101–120 to 'Administration'."
"Assign sequential Mark values D-101, D-102… to all doors on Level 1, ordered by room number."
"Change the Phase Created of all furniture on Level 2 to 'Phase 2'."
Known Limitations
Not supported: creating new elements, editing schedule formatting, placing a native Color Fill Legend, and refining viewport placement within a title block. It also works only within a single open file. bimsmith
Geometric Modify tools aren't documented. I found no source showing the Assistant running Move, Copy, Rotate, Mirror, Align, Split, or Delete, so I left them out.
The tool set changes outside the Revit release cycle. The Assistant can receive targeted updates independently of Revit releases. For the live list on your install, type the built-in prompt "What can you do for me?" in the Assistant panel. autodeskautodesk
Revit 2027 also has a separate public MCP Server, also in Tech Preview, that outside AI tools can connect to. It is read-only. It can query the model, get element data, open views, select or zoom to elements, and export views.
