Installing the Revit MCP Server
- If open, close the Claud Desktop app before installing the Revit MCP server.
- Install the Revit MCP Server Installing the Revit MCP Server
- Then, open the Claude Desktop app.
- The Claude Desktop app should find the Revit MCP Server and load it when you reopen the app.
Verify that the Revit MCP Server Loaded Successfully
- In the Claude Desktop app, open Settings.
- Go to the Developer tab.
- Look for the Revit MCP Server in the list of Local MCP Servers.
- Click the Edit Config button.
- Locate the configuration file — typically claude_desktop_config.
- Double-click to edit this file.
- Insert the following JSON code into the claude_desktop_config file.
- When inserting this code into an existing JSON config file, be sure to:
- Adjust the file path to match the version of the MCP Server you have installed.
- Check that the brackets in the JSON code are balanced.
- Add a comma at the end of the last bracket to tell JSON that this branch is closed (and is not part of the branch that follows)
- As an example, a successfully edited file will look like this:
- Check that the final bracket (enclosing all the JSON code) is balanced.
Adjusting the Configuration File Manually — Only Needed if the Server Doesn’t Load Automatically
If the Revit MCP Server is not loaded, you can manually edit the Claude Desktop configuration file to add it.

},Loading the revit-bim Plugin
To access all the features in the Revit MCP, you’ll also need to add the revit-bim plugin.
- Go to the Connectors tab.
- Search for, and then add the revit-bim plugin.
Enable Permissions for the Connector
- Go to the Connectors tab.
- Select the Revit MCP Experimental Technical Preview (or the connector for the MCP preview you have loaded).
- Give Always Allow access to each of the tools individually or by groups — Interactive tools, Read-only tools, and Write/delete tools.
