Consolidating Levels with Similar Elevations

If you import a project containing several buildings from Forma Building Design, the Revit project will have many sets of levels—one set for each imported building.

If many levels share the same (or similar) elevations, it may help to consolidate them—unifying elevations and eliminating duplicate levels that are no longer needed.

Workflow

  • Start by finding the name of the lowest building level.
    • It will likely have a name in this format “B01-L00”, where the prefix is the building number and the suffix is the floor level.
    • image
  • Find all Levels with the same elevation.
    • Use this Autodesk Assistant prompt:
    • image

Find all levels with the same elevation as B01-L00 and select them.

      image

Substitute the name of your lowest building level as needed.

‣
Reassign model elements to use the chosen level.
‣
Repeat the pattern for other levels in the building.
‣
Consolidate the levels.
  • Renaming Floor Plan Levels.
  • image

Rename all the plans that start with B01- to the same name as the original, except without the B01- at the beginning.

    image
  • Change the elevation of similar floor levels to match the same elevation.
  • image

Consolidate the levels with an elevation within 6” of the elevation of B01-L00.

Autodesk Assistant Prompts

You can also create an integrated prompt that incorporates all these steps and save that prompt to your Prompt Library.

  1. Find all levels with the same elevation as B01-L00.
  2. Select all the wall elements on the other levels, and change their base constraint to level B01-L00, and their top constraint to level B01-L01. If the top constraint is unconstrained, leave it unconstrained.
  3. Consolidate the floor elements to B01-L00.
  4. Select all the column elements on the other levels, and change their base constraint to B01-L00, and their top constraint to the next level above it, in this case B01-L01.
  5. Select all the shaft elements, and change their base constraint to B01-L00. Change their top constraint to the corresponding “B01-” level with the same L0# as the existing constraint.
  6. Next, send a request to repeat the same process for the next Floor level, following the floor name pattern
  7. Delete the other duplicate L00 series levels, and show a warning if any elements remain on the floor level.
  8. Repeat this same process for the next L series.

Next, delete any sheets with names that don't begin with B01. Then rename all remaining sheets to the same name, but without “B01-” at the beginning. Additionally, rename all the plans that start with B01- to the same thing, but without the “B01-”
