Converting Buildings from Forma Site Design

You can convert many of the buildings that you create in Forma Site Design into detailed buildings in Forma Building Design.

This conversion is available for:

  • Basic buildings
  • Line buildings
  • Site Automation buildings (that have been released to Line buildings)

It is not available for:

  • 3D Sketch buildings
  • House buildings
  • Generic volumes

Workflow - Method 1: In Forma Site Design

While using Forma Site Design, you can:

  • Select a Building in your Forma Site Design Model
  • If a selected Building can be converted to Building Design:
    • A message will appear in the right-side panel.

    • Click Convert to Building Design and Forma Building Design will open with the building selected and ready for editing.
  • If a selected Building cannot be converted to Building Design:
    • No message will appear in the right-side panel.

Tip for Selecting Buildings

You can adjust your Layers in Forma Site Design to make it easier to see buildings that can be converted to Forma Building Design.

  • Open the Layers menu.
  • Turn off the visibility of all layers except the Buildings layer.

  • Only forms considered buildings (and potentially eligible for conversion) will be displayed.

Workflow - Method 2: In Forma Building Design

  • Switch to Building Design using the Product Switcher menu.
  • Select a Site Design building on the canvas.
  • If a selected Building can be converted to Building Design:
    • A message will appear in the right-side panel.

    • Click Convert to Building Design, and Forma Building Design will convert the selected building and make it ready for editing.
      • Adjust the properties of the Building Design building in the Building panel on the right-side of the canvas.
      • You can:
        • Set the number of floors
        • Adjust the Floor Height
        • Assign an overall Function and Unit Type for the building
        • Choose the Wall type for the outer walls.
        • Create Options to explore alternative designs.
        • Start designing the facades.

Tip for Quickly Converting Site Design Buildings

You can adjust your Layers in Forma Site Design to make it easier to see buildings that can be converted to Forma Building Design.

  • Open the Layers menu.
  • Expand the Site Design Layers.
  • Click the Convert icon to the right of the Buildings layer name.

All of the eligible Site Design buildings will be converted to Detailed Buildings in Forma Building Design.
