Placing Supply Air Terminals in Each Space to Meet the Required Airflow

Workflow

Air terminals are often mounted on the ceiling, but they can also be mounted on walls, floors, or directly on ducts. For examples, see:

Air Terminal Location Alternatives

Create Ceilings (if desired)

To place supply air terminals on the ceiling of a space:

  • Switch to a Mechanical > Ceiling Plan view for the level.
  • If your linked Architectural model has ceilings:
    • Hover over the edge of a ceiling element.
    • Hit tab several times to select the ceiling in the Architectural model.
    • Use the Modify | RVT Links > Clipboard > Copy tool.
    • Use Modify | RVT Links > Clipboard > Paste> Aligned to Same Place.
  • If not, create new ceilings in your Mechanical model:
    • Use the Architecture > Build > Ceiling tool.
    • Set the Height Offset from Level for placing the ceilings.
    • Use Automatic Ceiling or Sketch Ceiling mode to create new ceilings to host the air terminals in each space.

Place the Air Terminal Elements

  • Set the Elevation from Level property to match the ceiling height (or the desired elevation) for the new Air Terminal elements.
💡

Tip: If you don’t see the Air Terminal elements in the ceiling plan after placing them, switch to a Floor Plan view to confirm whether they have been placed at Elevation from Level 0’-0”

💡

Tip: If you don’t see the airflow supplied by the air terminal elements in the Space Schedule after placing them, verify that their Elevation from Level places them within the space boundaries — between the Base Offset and the Limit Offset of the space.
