Specifying the Site Geolocation and Adding Contextual Data

When you create a new project in Forma Site Design, you’ll be asked to:

  • Specify the Geolocation to download a terrain model
  • Choose why types of contextual data you’d like to add to the site

Specifying the Geolocation

To select a map area, which defines where the model is added and where analyses are run:

  • Enter an address, area name, or coordinates into the search field.

  • Fine-tune the area to be included in your project site:
    • Pan to move left, right, up, or down.
    • Zoom in or out.

    • If you Zoom in too close, you’ll receive a warning. Zoom out to select a larger area.

  • Click the Confirm Geolocation button.

Adding Contextual Data

After you’ve specified the project site area, a window opens with contextual data you can add to the site.

For a quick start, choose Package — it contains USA Structures and Overture Roads.

Or for more control, you choose data sources independently:

  • One of the Buildings options — Overture Buildings or USA Structures
  • Overture Roads
  • OpenStreetMap Trees

Displaying the Satellite Image for your Project Site

To display the satellite image for your site:

  • Open the Display Options tool (looks like an eye)
  • Choose the Satellite Image option in the Terrain Section.

Adding More Contextual Data

You can return to the Contextual Data window at any time and add more data sources.

  • Open the Contextual Data tool in the left toolbar.
  • Then, choose the data sources to be added to your project.
