Create a new Rhino model of the Barcelona Pavilion using these images as guides.
I’ve built a first-pass massing model of the Barcelona Pavilion in Rhino, in metres, at about 56 × 25 m overall. I couldn’t confirm the result visually (the viewport capture wasn’t readable on my side), so run ZoomExtents and check it against your drawings.
What’s in it
- Podium: two levels. A raised platform under the main roof, and a lower terrace around the large reflecting pool, with a five-step stair down at the front.
- Pools: the large pool along the west wall and the small pool at the east end, each cut into the podium with a water surface.
- Walls: the retaining walls, the service block with its partitions, the long wall above the pool, the main pavilion’s perimeter and free-standing walls, and the onyx wall as a separate block.
- Glass and roofs: three glass screens, the main roof with its skylight slot, the service-block roof, and eight columns.
- Details: the low bench beside the long wall, two flagpoles, and the 1.1 m travertine joint lines on the podium tops.
- Layers: everything sits on
Pavilion::*layers (Podium, Walls, Onyx, Glass, Roof, Columns, Water, Grid, Stairs, Flagpoles).
How I scaled it: I traced wall and roof positions from your floor plan (image 3) and set the scale from the 1.1 m travertine module. I took the roof extents from the roof plan on the sheet. The roof is about 3.1–3.3 m above the raised platform, and the lower terrace sits 0.9 m below it.
Simplified or guessed
- Columns are plain cylinders rather than cruciform chrome ones.
- No doors or openings are cut, and the service block is just walls and a roof.
- Wall thicknesses, the podium step height, the stair and the flagpole positions are estimates.
- There is no furniture yet.
If you want to build this up further, I can add the cruciform columns, door openings, the Barcelona chairs, or a section and elevation set matching the sheet. If you give me measured heights, I’ll correct the vertical dimensions. I haven’t saved the file, so save it from Rhino when you’re happy with it.
