Design a building using the following floor plan, estimating the size based on the furniture dimensions.
The building is modeled in the fresh Rhino 8 doc (slot aardvark). I replaced the earlier test box with it and set the document units to feet.
Scale: From the scale bar and the furniture (queen bed ≈ 5 × 6.5 ft, dining table ≈ 6 ft, pool ≈ 34 × 14 ft), I estimated about 13.1 px per foot. That makes the footprint roughly 80 ft × 140 ft, plus the angled garage.
What’s in it:
- Walls: 75 walls, 6" thick and 10' tall, traced from the plan. This covers the north office/guest wing, the central kitchen/sauna/play room band, the south bedroom wing, and the stair blocks. I left gaps at the door swings.
- Garage and pool storage: Both are rotated to match the plan’s angle. The garage is about 31 × 23 ft with a closed door panel on its drive-side edge. The pool storage is about 15 × 9 ft.
- Glazing: Six translucent glass walls: the sitting area, the north covered patio, the courtyard side of the living room, and the south covered patio.
- Floors, roofs and columns: Floor slabs and 1' flat roofs over all the enclosed areas, plus 7 columns on the patio and sitting-area lines.
- Ground: A courtyard slab with the four stepping stones, and a pool deck with the pool cut out 5' deep and a water surface.
I haven’t verified it against the plan. The render came back, but I can’t reliably inspect it from here, so please check the proportions in Rhino. Everything was traced by eye, so expect some wall positions to be off by a foot or two.
Not modeled:
- Door leaves, windows (other than the glass walls) and furniture.
- The upper and lower levels the stairs lead to, and the sloped driveway.
- The north arrow. I treated “up” on the plan as +Y, so the building isn’t rotated to true north.
Next I can add door and window frames, furniture from the plan, or a second level, or tune any dimension that looks off to you.
