Enabling Revit - Generative Design License for Your Autodesk ID

💡
The Generative Design tools in Revit and Dynamo are provided to students and educators for free, but you’ll need to login to Revit using your student Autodesk ID to enable this free access.

Open the Generative Design Tools thru Dynamo to enable free Student Access using your Autodesk ID

To add this license to use the Generative Design tools, follow these steps:

  • Open the Dynamo environment using the Manage > Visual Programming > Dynamo button.
  • Then, select one of the options under the Generative Design menu at the top of the Dynamo window:
    • Choose Create Study... to create a new Generative Design Study using your Dynamo graph.
      • A new Create Study window will pop up beside the Dynamo window.
      • If you don't see it, check the Windows Taskbar for an icon that looks like a grid of 9 squares.
    • Select the Three Box Massing study from the Autodesk Samples folder.
    • Click the Generate button to run this study.

Once you've successfully run at least one Study through Dynamo, a license for Revit - Generative Design will be added to your Autodesk ID, and you can continue to use this license.

💡
The critical first step is to create your first study from within Dynamo.  This puts all the essential pieces in place to continue using the tools by signing in to Revit with your Autodesk ID.

Always Sign In using Your Autodesk ID to Use Your Revit - Generative Design License.

To use Generative Design on any computer, you must sign in to Revit using your student Autodesk ID.

The use of the Revit-Generative Design tools is licensed to each individual student (not the computer) when you access the Generative Design tools thru Dynamo and create at least one study. After this license has been added to your Autodesk ID, you'll be able to access Generative Design tools (to Create Study or Explore Outcomes) from either the Revit interface or from within Dynamo.
