Which types of structural framing systems and materials are most commonly used in the US for residences? For office buildings?

What factors determine why these are the most used materials?

Why do different teams of designers and subcontractors link and share their models during the design process?

Linking models helps expedite the design review process since it can be very tedious. Being able to see everyone’s details in one place allows for communication to be much faster and easier.

What are the advantages of linking models? It can save time

Are there any disadvantages to linking models? Perhaps, people rely too much on the models instead of having active discussions about elements.

How do you think design coordination was done before we started using digital models?

What advantages does doing this coordination digitally have over previous methods? I think professionals would sent their drawing back and forth with edits. I would also say that usually most of the detail was done within the same team instead of working collaboratively across teams.

What strategies can design teams use to find and avoid clashes prior to the start of construction?

What can be done besides sharing the models digitally?

At what point in the project development process should design coordination start?

Is it ever too early?

I think design coordination can never be done too early. Perhaps having some general goals and guidelines from each team is a good way to start coordinating.
