Description

This Field Research Station was designed to be simple but effective. First, the building maximizes it’s available length facing south while fitting within the total footprint requirements, allowing for the greatest possible sun exposure (given this will be in the northern hemisphere). The roof follows this idea, with a full slant facing south for a large solar array. The southern face is full of windows for more natural lighting as well as passive heating in the winter months, with minimal windows on the northern face so less heat escapes through the back of the building. The roof also has a 3’ overhang in the front to cast a shadow over the large front windows in the summer when the sun is high in the sky, but still allows the lower winter sun to shine more directly for heating benefits when needed most. The interior has tucked desks for individual work and open space for a collaborative work bench and table.
