Hi! My name is Kate Meleski and I am a second-year MS student in sustainable design and construction on the energy track. I completed my undergraduate degree at Syracuse University in civil engineering with a minor in sustainable construction management. I am interested in working on adaptive reuse projects that transform vacant buildings into affordable housing through sustainable engineering practices while considering community impact. Some of my hobbies include tennis, pickleball, ballet, baking, and kickboxing.
This past summer, I worked as a Construction Summer Associate at Berkeley Research Group. This role consisted of tasks such as reviewing construction contracts, change orders, and project documentation to verify that claimed costs and time impacts matched supporting records. I also supported damages and delay analysis on construction dispute cases by reviewing client and counsel-provided documentation (change orders, work orders, correspondence) to extract information on scope changes and schedule impacts for use by senior consultants in building as-built schedules.
I am taking this course to develop my BIM skills in building design and construction. I am particularly interested in how building information modeling can be used to evaluate building performance. I am hoping to gain a better understanding of how different building systems work together throughout the design and construction process.
