A drawing is a picture of a building. A model is a description of one.
◦ What questions can you ask a model that you cannot ask a drawing?
In a model you can remove things, and ask yourself will this design still work? However for a drawing you cannot because if you remove something everything stays in place without reacting.
◦ Are there things a drawing still communicates better? Give an example.
Yes if you randomly think of something you can just grab a piece of paper and sketch your idea out, but for a model you have to open the software/have access to a computer and then design what you are thinking. My point is a drawing is faster to communicate ideas.
Where should a building model actually live?
I would say on a teams cloud where everyone can access it
◦ What are the practical consequences of a model living on one person's laptop?
Your teammates cannot access it making working on a project very difficult and having to ask you to show them the model whenever they need to reference it
◦ What changes when the model lives in the cloud, for the designer and for everyone else?
It makes everyone's life easier because everyone can access it, make changes and reference it without delays.
You will make hundreds of modeling decisions this quarter.
◦ Which ones are worth being slow and careful about?
Knowing where to build things and what you are building because if you decide to change this later it impacts everything and you may/will need to start all over.
◦ Which are worth being fast about, accepting that you may redo them?
Decorations and placeholders. For example, a window is something you can play around with. One specific day you may want a certain design and the next you’ll want to change which is okay because it can be easily changed.
◦ How would you tell the difference before you have made the mistake?
You can ask yourself if what you are doing will have major effect in the future and if does maybe you shouldn’t proceed, but if it doesn't then continue.
