How much detail should you include about wall, floor and roof composition at different stages?
◦ Conceptual design: Very basic, just a general location.
◦ Preliminary design: Starting to think about different wall/floor/roof types in different locations and materials used to thermally insulate, where there needs to be wet walls, fireproof walls, etc.
◦ Design development: Should have all of the aspects above figured out and see where to make improvements for carbon footprint, thermal insulation, and structural integrity.
◦ Construction documentation: All details above should be worked out to limit errors in construction.
You moved a design from Forma into Revit this week.
◦ What survived intact, and what did you rebuild?
Personally, my topography and some labeling for stairs/elevators did not transfer over, so I had to adjust and add those aspects. Also, wall types had to be created and adjusted in revit.
◦ What does that tell you about what each tool is for?
It seems that forma has a very basic way of modeling, which definitely has a purpose, but will not get detailed in some things that you need in revit.
◦ Knowing where the handoff lands, what would you do differently in Forma next time?
I would not spend as much time worrying about details since I know I will likely have to adjust many aspects in revit anyways.
Many manufacturers provide Revit families for their products.
◦ What is the advantage to the manufacturer of giving them away?
◦ What is the benefit to you of using them over the generic library families?
◦ At what point does it become appropriate to switch from generic to manufacturer specific?
The core is located early and moved rarely.
◦ Why does it get fixed before most of the building?
Other aspects run around these fixed areas, such as stairs and elevators, because they affect all floors most of the time. So adjusting them later on will affect all floors of the building.
◦ What are the consequences of a core that does not stack vertically?
There are structural issues that can arise as well as increase in building costs.
◦ What did locating the core force you to change about your Week 3 layout?
Nothing changed since I planned around not touching the core early on and made my floor plans around them.
Your Insight result did not match your Forma result.
◦ What accounts for the difference?
◦ Which number would you show a client, and how would you explain the gap?
◦ Does a more detailed model automatically produce a more trustworthy prediction?
