Design memo of 300 to 500 words: how the massing changed from Week 2 and why, what the facade studies showed, what you chose, and where you overrode the automation

In my design there is a big square box, which serves as the base, but there is a mini box within it that goes up. This is the tower part. I slightly extended the base and length of the smaller box to follow the recommended 20-30-20 gridline structure. At the moment I thought this would help make things easier, but it didn’t. It made things worse because I struggled for a while to think of designs for the middle because all units require windows. Although the gridline matched the 20-30-20, it still didn't help due to having to account for the 6 feet corridor, so I think leaving how it was before would have worked as well. The facade studies (carbon analysis, sun hours and daily light analysis) look very similar to each other with little to no difference. This is due to my facades having the balconies in the same spot, and changing the window type for the rest. They’re very similar, but different. I feel like the first facade was the version where I was just experimenting and trying to get the idea of how windows worked. This meant I played around with a variety of windows. Once I understood how windows worked in certain scenarios I made my second facade, which I ended up choosing as the one to continue with. I feel like there were better patterns in the second facade and the elevations being more uniform compared to the 1st facade. I hated the automation for the facade. I couldn't get it to work because there were two many different dimensions, so I ended up just doing it manually, which to me was easier. I did however still make my own window/balconies designs like how the professor did in the video.
