Design memo of 300 to 400 words: what survived the handoff, what you rebuilt, what assembly choices you made and why, and where Revit and Forma disagreed.

The vast majority of the design survived the transition to Revit. The only issues I had were very minor. I had to redo the internal doors because they didn't carry over for most levels. However, this gave me valuable experience with the method of pasting that aligns the objects to the current floors selected and allows you to paste them on multiple floors at once. I ended up using this to correct the walls surrounding my elevator. I also needed to fix some of the wall thicknesses. As I played around with the layers of the walls in particular, I ran into a lot of issues because I hadn’t realized that I was obviously changing the thickness of the walls as I changed the types and thicknesses of the materials inside the walls. Eventually, though, I was able to correct this. And again, I had to move around the walls surrounding the elevator shaft to match the size of the electric elevator we had to import.

I kept my assembly of elements fairly similar across the projects. The rooms were able to survive the transfer. I did make some changes to my windows and balconies in Forma before I transferred the building over, because it was having some alignment issues. But for the most part, they functioned really well in Revit, and there were no big issues. Moving the walls to make way for the genuine elevator and service shafts was the only major change I had to make.

The only other formatting change I had to make after the transfer between programs was the base height of the site, which I had to bring up in Revit. The Revit buildings pack was also inaccurate on some buildings, but there wasn’t much I could do about that. Overall, however, it was a very smooth process, and the added elements performed very well.
