Design memo of 250 to 400 words: what your calculated field computes and what it told you, and what you learned about your own design from having to document it.
The calculated fields I computed were the % of total area for each unit type, this included the elevator, hallways, and the residential units. I also computed the % of residential units, this is the distribution of the different types of residential units and this calculated field is by count instead of by area. The % of residential units distribution tells me what the Forma metrics told me, but now in a schedule inside revit. The % of total area tells me how much space things like hallways and other functional rooms take up.
When I took perspectives and interior elevations, I learned that there were corners of the unit that I didn’t like as much in those views compared to when I saw them in the plan view. Needing to document what types of rooms and doors and windows have helped me look at my building more holistically instead of just looking from floor plan to floor plan. I also started thinking about occupancy and how many people can occupy a space.
This week I had a lot of fun with putting in plumbing fixtures and placing essential furnishing inside units. I liked how I needed to think about how people occupy the space and what made sense to put where. Such as where a door leading to a bathroom should be placed or how I should divide the whole unit to make sure rooms had enough space and I had all the necessary functions. I also realized that needing to place plumbing units close to each other really shapes the way the whole unit is laid out. Also I had to fix some of my windows.
