Module 1 - Software Tools Testing

Estimated effort: 3 hours

Assignment Overview

Welcome to Building Modeling for Design & Construction. Before you design anything, your tools have to work.

This course runs on three connected environments. Autodesk Forma is where you will do site and conceptual design in the cloud. Revit is where you will develop the detailed model and produce documentation. Forma Data Management (FDM) is where you will publish, version, and coordinate your models with other disciplines. These have to talk to each other, on your machine, under your Stanford provisioned Autodesk account.

This first assignment is deliberately light and mostly mechanical. The point is to surface every install, license, GPU and permission problem now, in Week 1 when there is slack in the schedule, rather than in Week 4 when you are mid project and something will not open.

Test 1: Create a new Forma project. Sign in to the class Forma workspace, create a project, and confirm you can order context data for any location.

Test 2: Create a new Revit 2027 project. Confirm Revit launches, is licensed, and that the US content libraries are installed.

Test 3: Open an existing Revit model. Download the class test model and confirm it opens without missing family or link warnings.

Test 4: Publish to Forma Data Management. Upload the test model to your personal folder, create a share link, and confirm the link opens in a fresh browser window.

What to Submit

  • Post a screenshot from each of the four tests as a new card in the Module 1 - Submissions gallery on Notion.
  • ✏️Module 1 - Submissions
  • Also complete the Introduce Yourself post.
  • Then answer your Points to Ponder questions in a separate card here:
  • Module 1 - Points to Ponder

If any test fails, post the error anyway and bring it to Friday check in. A failed test reported in Week 1 is not a problem. A failed test discovered in Week 4 is.
