There are many analogies that can be made between the systems that you typically find in biological organisms and those you can find in buildings. Similar to how a nervous system takes information from across the body to the brain, sensors placed throughout a building, in combination with an electrical system, take information from around the building to bring to a data center. Then like a brain, the data center collects information and adjusts the building for optimal conditions. In terms of an external system, just like the skin keeps things outside the body and things inside the body, a building’s envelope does the same for a building. Lastly, like a human’s heart, a building has a mechanical room, where all the integral mechanical parts keep the building running.
