Journal Entry For
Module 1 - Design Inspirations & Big Feature Ideas
- Integration with natural environmental — Sante Fe, NM as inspiration
- Integrated solar PV to match energy consumption with energy generation — potentially in combination with green/living roof
- Use of passive solar strategies to reduce need for additive heating / cooling energy use
- South facing window
- Concrete floor for thermal storage
- Display real-time energy consumption/generation metrics in publicly accessible location like building lobby
- Use of recycled concrete or concrete alternatives like mast timber or structurally engineered bamboo
- Integration of battery energy storage
- Integration of EV charging installation paired with solar PV canopies
- I like buildings that are low and flat
- Interesting use of color through implementation of stained glass, etc.
- Perhaps windows facing various directions could have different color tints — this could be used to help explain the variable impact that sunlight causes on different faces of a building
- Concrete slab floor for thermal energy storage
- Inspiration from National Renewable Energy Laboratory facility in Golden, CO
- I also like the look of Shiftpod tents and observatory facilities
