Design Journal Entry - Module 9

Found this to be a very clever marketing stint, but also something that highlights the importance of HVAC / thermal comfort of occupants.

goal cfms and cooling and heating:

cooling load seems very very very high. looks like most of it comes from occupant / windows. potentially the skylight might need to be adjusted.

was originally going to go with radiant heating and cooling, but heating was minimal compared to cooling, and heard in video that radiant cooling isn’t great for humid climates. plus would still need air flow. I placed the air handler units in the basement, because I would ideally like to maximize the roof space for PV.

My overall goal was to minimize the appearance of the ducts, but I am struggling how to execute it. Heating strategies include continuing to maximize solar heat gain when needed. Originally included radiant floor systems. But mostly air systems now.

My cooling goal was to also originally to use radiant cooling systems, but it’s not great for places with high humidity and can cause condensation. Could look into chilled beams.

also will try to maximize natural ventilation, ideally through the atrium similar to y2e2, unsure of how to model it but could highly decrease my cooling loads during warmer days.
