For my structural design process, I looked to keep the metal component of beams, columns, etc minimal yet also have it contrast the general wood feel to the building. In places that are more condensed, such as the work spaces, I made sure to keep the columns to a minimum in order to maintain the openness to the space. However, as shown in my picture, I put more of the load-bearing stress on spaces that are utilized for moving around and maintenance. It's clear that the architect responsible for designing this building intended to have a certain style and open feel to the building. However, with clever positioning of columns and beam systems, I think my design allows for minimal intrusion of structure, but just enough to reaffirm and support the building in a visually appealing way.
