Gabriel Lipkowitz: Le Corbusier's Ville Radieuse

image

These parametrically designed towers are inspired by Le Corbusier’s Radiant City (Ville Radieuse), presented as a speculative design in 1924 as a solution to the modern problem of mass population in congested urban environments. As shown in these pictures, in typical modernist style, all of Le Corbusier’s towers were identical, a design attribute that, at the time, and as was the case for many modernist structures, imparted them with a “lifelessness” that was unattractive to many as living spaces. To solve this, here I present parametrically designed Ville Radieuse, where the designer can change building attributes e.g. the height, width of the tower segments, and area of the ground floor.
