Hi everyone! My name is Xuan. I am a first-year master's student in the sustainable design and construction program. I graduated from McGill University in Canada with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. For the past summer, I worked as a civil engineering intern at a construction firm in Beijing. I participated in the construction of an urban redevelopment project assisting an old community of more than 1000 families. I value this work for how it can improve the quality of life for old communities, as I have witnessed first-hand how an old community can be transformed into a younger and more sustainable neighborhood.
I believe that parametric modeling and design optimization are crucial steps in the process of creating complex, customized objects. I am eager to acquire proficiency in using computational design tools and techniques to enhance my design efficiency and outcomes. Therefore, I am excited to take this course which will expand upon the Advanced BIM modeling workshop I completed last quarter, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
My primary objective in taking this course is to gain proficiency in using parametric design modeling platforms and scripting environments, which will enable me to evaluate an extensive range of design alternatives swiftly. Also, I hope to use optimization techniques to make my designs not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional, efficient, and sustainable. I will start my first full-time job as a roadway designer in July, so I am enthusiastic about the prospects of enhancing my skill set and knowledge in this field, which I believe will contribute significantly to my future professional endeavors.
In my free time, I like to watch movies, listen to music, capture photographs, and discover diverse cultures and cuisines through traveling.
