Figure 1: Larger bays (x axis) reduce the total number of columns (decreasing slope) and increase usable space (larger circle sizes) but require deeper, heavier beams and lead to increased floor deflection (colors)

image

Figure 2: A tighter column grid (x axis going left) improves structural stiffness and reduces deflection but increases column count (larger circle size so more columns with smaller bay spacing), decreasing open space and raising construction costs (higher y-values so higher costs with smaller bay spacing) and schedule duration (color gradation)

image

Figure 3: More structural material (x axis) reduces usable floor area (negative trending slope), increasing embodied carbon (size of circles larger with higher x) and construction time (color gradation with higher x)

image

Figure 4: Increasing beam spans (x axis) COULD limit floor-to-ceiling heights (color) and increase decrease material volume (size of circles generally larger with smaller bay spacing) due to larger beams needed for longer spans but not large enough to beat the column reduction savings from more but also smaller columns

in previous iterations, I had to debug several issues regarding Revit dependencies to allow for gen design:

please see Take4 dynamo file for the latest and corrected version so that it can undergo a gen design run
