Design Journal Entry - Module 4

Please enter the following info in the fields above:

  • Your Name as the Card title
  • The link to your Module 4 folder in our Autodesk Construction Cloud project

Please also type the first few letters of your first name into the Link to Student field, then hover over your name from the list of matching records and click the blue plus sign to link this entry to your Design Journal.

Then, share your Design Journal entry here (replacing these instructions) ...

Click the text area below the headers and just start typing your response. There's no need to add new properties.

Please include:

  • A screenshot of your model geometry from each part of the assignment that you completed:
    • For 2 or More Units: Rise and Shine
    • For 3 or More Units: Gonna Need Shades
    • For 4 Units: Shield Your Eyes
  • A few sentences describing your modeling approach for each stage
  • A brief description of your design outlining the parameters that can be used to flex and dynamically change your structure

STAGE 1, PART 1

Arc-shaped wall with image of dinosaur colorblocked onto it

Adjustable Parameters:

  • Degrees of Arc (0 to 360)
  • Height of Wall
  • Number of Horizontal Panels
  • Image

Once I extruded the wall, I moved on to creating square wall panels and mapping the corresponding colors from the image. I ran into a roadblock with the UV parameters and transpose function, but once I figured that out, this part was smooth sailing!

STAGE 1, PART 2

Sorry for the lack of detail on this one! Everytime I adjusted my UV parameter calculation to a ratio that represented 4 inch panels, rather than 4 feet, Revit would crash.

Adjustable Parameters

  • Length of baseline
  • Height of Wall
  • Number of Waves
  • Wave Amplitude
  • Image
  • Wall Height Range

I followed a similar process of getting my wall set up and adjustable, thinking through the logic behind parameter set up, mapping the colors, and testing edge cases. The additional step of height calculations followed once the colors were properly organized on the wall.

STAGE 2

Though I attempted everything in the instructions, I ran into trouble with this one! I know my point and panel set up is contributing to this chaos, but wasn’t able to figure out why. Though I also have the color mapping for sunlight set up, I couldn’t get the colors to show up in Revit.
