Key Findings from the Interview

  • What is one space you spend most of your time in?
  • She spends most of her time at home, especially now during COVID times when almost everything is virtual and remote. She studies, eats, workouts, watches movies in her house, which puts her at ease knowing that she is almost always in a safe and comfortable space.

  • What is one fear you have when it comes to houses?
  • She explains that she always thinks about earthquakes/floodings/tsunamis and if her house can withstand such events. It isn't typically a fear or a trauma as she never experienced such an event, but she says that she always hears news about natural disasters that completely damage people's homes (such as in East Asia), which really increases her worries.

  • What are some features you can think of that can help withstand this fear?
  • The first idea she thought of is how houses in Japan are fully equipped with developed technologies that can survive strong earthquakes.Similarly to Bali where houses are built in a way to withstand hurricanes and typhoons. Such features would make a person feel safer and at ease by knowing that in case any disastrous event happens, they are relatively in a safe position.
