Point of View Statement
Kiara is looking to purchase a sustainable sanitary pad only if it checks off all the basic requirements of a regular sanitary pad while still being in a similar price range as the one they currently use. They would also need the process of manufacturing to be hygienic and standardized.
Minimum Viable Product
To create a thin layered pad, with the base material as banana/coconut husk waste-derived fiber. The pad must be able to absorb around 10ml of liquid at initial stage, with the flow not settling in just one part of the pad.
EcoFlow💚
The simplest version of this product that delivers value and meets the challenges of this POV statement will have these essential features:
- Fabric derived from banana fiber or coconut husk fiber, created into thin layers for the pad.
- Absorption capacity of about 10ml of liquid.
- Texture of the pad should be soft-nearly as soft as a cotton cloth
- Hygiene should be maintained throughout the process.
To support the viability of this sustainable alternative of commonly used menstrual hygiene product, a research had been conducted as embedded below:
MVP Layers
Process for deriving fabric from Banana Fiber manually (as specified by US AID-Hygiene Improvement Project):
The main countries and locations in USA, where banana cultivations are massive.
In USA: Hawaii and Florida are the most tropical locations where banana cultivations flourish.
Note on quality assurance and additional criteria as provided by UNICEF, that can be taken into account at later stages of the manufacturing.
