Using Line Buildings for Parametric Layouts
- Draw a guiding line instead of a footprint
- Forma automatically generates the building mass along the line
- Define parameters such as:
- building width
- number of floors
- floor height
- section lengths
- alignment to site edges
Line buildings are especially useful for:
- bar buildings
- perimeter blocks
- row housing
Workflow
- Sketch a guiding line (or connected lines) that that indicate where Forma should automatically generate the building mass
- Select the building mass and adjust the parameters:
- building width
- number of floors
- floor height
- section lengths
- Add circulation (hallways) if desired:
- width
- position — center, left, or right
Line Buildings can later be released and converted into Basic Buildings for more detailed editing. (This cannot be undone.)
Adjusting a Line Building’s Parameters
When you create a Line Building, you can adjust its parameters.
Select the Line Building. Modify height and floor settings in the control panel on the right.
Double-click the Line Building to edit the guiding line that controls the building orientation.
While in edit mode, you can manually adjust sections, add new ones, or remove existing ones to refine the building layout.
TIP: You can adjust the number of floors for only one section by selecting only the one that you would like to change.
