Creating Generic Volumes

πŸ’‘

Best for custom massing and design elements that won’t be counted in the Gross Floor Area (GFA) β€” generic volumes are not treated as buildings unless floors are added.

Using Generic Volumes for Flexible Massing

  • Create volumes using:
    • Freeform shapes
    • Cube
    • Cylinder
    • Trace existing geometry
  • Draw a 2D footprint and pull it into a 3D volume with your desired height
  • Unlike Basic Buildings:
    • No automatic floor generation
    • Does not calculate Gross Floor Area by default (can be converted by adding floors)
    • Used as a Generic object instead of a Building

Adjusting a Generic Volume

Select the Generic Volume to adjust its display color, height, footprint, and elevation in the right-side panel.

Double-click the volume to enter 3D Sketch mode and manually edit the geometry.

If you double-click a generic volume, you enter 3D Sketch mode, where the geometry can be edited much more freely. This allows direct form manipulation and supports more advanced design development.

Add floors to convert the Generic Volume into a building element with the functions and area metrics of a Basic Building.

TIP: You can adjust the number of floors for only one section by selecting only the one that you would like to change.
