Installing the Revit MCP Server

  • Go to manage.autodesk.com
  • Switch to Products and Service tab
  • Scroll down to Revit tile, then click View Details

  • Choose the Extensions tab on the Revit 2027 downloads page.

  • Download one of the MCP Server versions:

    1. Read-Tools Technical Preview

      2. Connects AI clients such as Claude Desktop and Cursor to Autodesk Revit 2027 over the Model Context Protocol, so you can query, search, and report on your model using natural language. Provides read-only tools for retrieving element information, opening and exporting views, selecting elements, and navigating the model. It never modifies your Revit model.

    2. Write-Tools Technical Preview

      3. Extends the Revit Public MCP Server with write capability, letting AI clients such as Claude Desktop and Cursor make controlled changes to your Revit 2027 model through natural language. Includes all Read tools plus a set of supported write tools. Because this server can modify your model, review proposed changes before accepting them and back up your model before write operations.

    3. Experimental-Tools Technical Preview

      4. The broadest Revit Public MCP Server configuration, intended for evaluating the newest capabilities and advanced AI-assisted workflows in Revit 2027. Includes all Read and Write tools plus experimental tools that are still under active development. This server can modify your model, so review proposed changes and back up your model before use.

  • Run the downloaded file to install the Revit MCP.
    • C:\\Program Files\\Autodesk\\Revit 2027 MCP Server Experimental-Tools Technical Preview\\Autodesk.RevitMcpServer.Stdio.exe
  • Restart the Revit application.

The server communicates over stdio, which means it works with any LLM client that supports the MCP specification, including:

  • Claude Desktop
  • Cursor
  • Other MCP-compatible clients and tools.
