Using an Imported DXF to Define a Site

If you have survey data or a site plan in DXF format, you can import it and use it as a reference to draw an accurate site boundary.

  1. Export your survey boundary or site plan to a georeferenced DXF file from your CAD or survey software.
  2. In Forma Building Design, go to Actions > Import and upload the DXF file.
  3. Switch to Top View to see the imported lines from above.
  4. Use the Site Limit tool to trace or snap to the imported lines when drawing your site boundary.

This is the recommended approach for getting survey-accurate site limits into Building Design.

Known limitations

  • DWG files are not supported directly. As a workaround, export DWG to DXF in your CAD software and import the DXF file instead.
  • Direct coordinate input is not supported. You cannot type in survey coordinates (such as N/E bearings and distances) directly. Instead, export your survey data to a georeferenced DXF file and import it as described above.
