Using Facade Automations

Façade Automations allow you to quickly generate façade patterns that automatically adapt to changes in building geometry.

Automations can be applied at multiple levels:

  • Entire building
  • Individual façades
  • Individual floors

Before applying an automation, select the relevant building element to which the automation will be applied:

  • An entire building
  • An individual façade
  • An individual floor

The available Automations will appear in the Facade properties panel.

Available Automations

There are three façade automation types:

  • Single Windows Automation
  • Window-to-Wall Ratio (WWR) Automation
  • Module Automation

Select the desired automation using the buttons located at the top of the Façade menu.

Single Windows Automation

The Single Windows Automation distributes windows parametrically across a selected façade.

Best used for: Simple, repetitive window layouts.

You can define:

  • Window width and height
  • Horizontal gaps between windows
  • Sill height

Based on these parameters, the tool automatically generates windows across the façade surface.

To customize the layout, click Release Automation, but use this option carefully — it cannot be undone.

Window-to-Wall Ratio (WWR) Automation

The Window-to-Wall Ratio (WWR) Automation allows you to define the percentage of glazing applied to one or more façades.

Best used for: Testing glazing ratios and evaluating façade performance during early design.

You can specify the desired window-to-wall ratio and select how the glazing is distributed using layout options such as:

  • Squares
  • Ribbons
  • Bars

To customize the layout, click Release Automation, but use this option carefully — it cannot be undone.

Module Automation

The Module Automation distributes predefined façade modules across a façade according to a defined sequence. Both Facade Modules and Curtain Wall Modules can be applied using Module Automation.

Best used for: Applying structured façade systems with repeating design logic while there is still overall design changes on the building shape.

Modifying the Modules in the Automation

The Modules list shows the modules that will be included in the automation. And the order of modules in the list determines the distribution pattern across the façade.

  • Click a module in the list to replace it using the drop-down menu.
  • Click the “+” button to add additional modules.
  • Drag modules within the list to reorder them.

Defining the Distribution Direction

You can control how modules are applied to the facade:

  • From Center
  • From Left
  • From Right

Modules are automatically placed across the façade according to the selected direction.

  • If you choose From Left or From Right, you can also specify an Offset value to adjust the starting position of the module sequence.
