Model before energy analysis:

Results before changes:

I had a high EUI that was just under the ASHRAE 90.1 limits. This was mainly due to the entire building being made of curtain walls. I attempted multiple different ways to add shading but it wasn’t enough. I decided to lower my WWR by adding actual walls and having windows. This had a major impact on my energy usage.

This is my EUI after making all the changes. The ones with the biggest impacts are listed below.

Changing the type of glass on my windows had a large impact on my EUI. I went with the best glass which was LoE. This allows me to get as much daylighting as possible without overheating my room. The south side of my building had the biggest impact on EUI. The R value was around 2.8

I decided to go with a well insulated roof to further reduce the energy usage. I chose a steel truss insulation on metal deck. This has an R value of 113.

The efficient use of PV panels impacted my EUI the most. I chose a flat roof to have as much of it covered with panels as possible. I chose the max coverage of 90%. With a 30 year payback limit. I would also use the most efficient panels with 20% efficiency. Solar is a top priority in order to meet my energy goals and the upfront cost will pay off.

Daylighting Rendering: It is pretty well lit just with the windows. I will have to see how harsh the light is coming in and maybe add light shelves to extend it further into the building.

Improvements: I believe adding a green roof can help lower my EUI. Also reducing the number of windows on the south side where possible can prevent the building from heating up. I will continue to explore better thermally resistant elements. I will also look in to see if the light coming in the building is too harsh.
