For my project, I want to focus on the following features….
- Structure and Materials (Biophilic Design)
The best practice for sustainability is using as few materials as possible and creating minimal waste. This is why pre-fabrication is becoming an important step during the design process. I want to emphasize designs having multiple roles and features. This is why I will be using mass timber for the structure because it not only functions well but looks beautiful. I’m also a big fan of wood in architecture and it contributes to the biophilic design of a sustainable building.
- Modular and Flexibility
My next focus will be on modularity and how I can incorporate a kid-friendly environment. It would be great if this design could be replicated in different areas and I enjoy the lightness of the photo. It's open, lots of natural light, and there is a trampoline for kids to enjoy! I would also like the space to be multi-functional and can adapt to whatever purpose arises.
- Light and Shadow
I would like either the cafe with a sitting structure or an outside exhibit to have a similar design to the photo. I enjoy the comfort this design provides but also how it allows light in and keeps light out. I always enjoy seeing how architecture can manipulate light and create a psychological feeling for those who wander around the building.
- Color and Art
Since this is a place for kids to learn, I would like to incorporate color and art wherever I can. This can be through an artistic play structure or a colorful exhibit that children can learn from.
